The chain heard the news. In an interview with the Asahi Shimbun, senior official of the Bank of Japan Takeshi Kimura said that the establishment of a central bank digital currency (CBDC) is considered as one of the Bank of Japan’s top tasks. He said that the Bank of Japan will advance the discussion, but did not give a clear timetable to start the test, but consider cooperating with the private sector because the latter may have a deeper technical understanding of the issue. He added that if the convenience of the cashless payment system cannot be improved due to the lack of compatibility, the Bank of Japan’s digital currency may promote the integration of various cashless payment systems.
