Facebook’s Calibra team releases new Byzantine fault-tolerant BFT test method

The Calibra team at Facebook published a research report outlining Twins, a new lightweight method for testing Byzantine fault tolerance (BFT). The paper stated, “Although the BFT system has been extensively researched for more than two decades, the main strategy for testing Byzantine fault tolerance implementation is lacking in this field.” The test method Twins will run two node instances with the same identity to simulate Byzantine behavior, allowing its testers to systematically generate Byzantine attack scenarios on a large scale, execute and check the required protocol attributes in a controlled manner.
